A Week And A Transfer

I’m just gonna be open about what happened this week cause I’ve learned the importance of that on my mission, but i won’t go into too much detail:

This week was really hard, I don’t think I have ever cried more in my life. The language is surprisingly fine, my Portuguese has improved immensely. I’m trying to stay positive and happy because I know I am here to work, not to enjoy myself so I’m giving all my effort and trying as hard as possible. I love Sister K Oliver but unfortunately I’ve been having some health issues and I am being transferred this afternoon to Sao Sebastiao to be with Sister Ramos. President Cooper decided that would be best and he thinks it will help me so I will go to the mission home tonight to talk to him. I also got to talk to Sister Olsen because President Cooper thought that could help and she really helped and it was like the best thing ever, we could talk FOREVER I swear.

Anyways, enough of the depressing stuff haha i’ll try to make this next part positive
Literally everyday is like the wildest day ever. Our apartment doesn’t have a water filter so thank goodness i was sent with like 10 filters because i have been using those. It’s also hard to turn off the lights cause you have to be careful or it will shock you hahah. Luckily the members here feed us SUPER well, the food is so good even though I’m not sure what i am eating half the time. Nothing super crazy...yet. They really love açai here and It’s really cheap so I’ve been loading up on that. Oh and Sister Olsen made me a planner and our district leader gave it to me and it is so cute, with the cutest inspirational quotes.

The sister trainors already visited this week and we went on splits and me and Sister Lima got 17 new investigators in like 2 hours. It was hard cause she made me do some on my own, and ive been teaching parts of the lessons with very little prep but its been working so far.

Okay so for dogs, Everyone has cute dogs here and i’m sorry but I have to pet them. There’s so many french bulldogs and then cute little pugs but also goldens and rotweillers. So great.

One of the days we went out to this kinda farmers market fair with the elders  in Sobradinho II and the sister trainers and a member and ate some cool stuff, but as we were walking back Sister oliveira realized she had forgotten the key. it was the only time she had ever carried it and now I know why I always carry it. So we all had to pile in a tiny car, sitting on laps with no seatbelts and driving the wild roads of Sobradino (it’s a relatively large town actually) dad you would have died hahaha. Our DL had a lock kit and ended up picking one of the locks and then sawing off the other and that night we put our couch against the door cause it isnt super safe here but we’ve been fine so far.
Sobradinho has a lot of potential and I am sad I wont get to see the baptisms that we are all ready for, but I think that I need to be transfered. Its hard and my companion and the other companions are super sad but hopefully it’s for the best.

15 Minutes! - Arrival In First Area - Sobradinho

I thought the CTM was bad for time? I only have 15 minutes right now. It has been an insane week and I can only do a group email;  so I am sorry to everyone whose emails I won’t be able to look at yet. So last week at the CTM, super sad. It was really hard to leave everyone and there was a lot of drama the last day (one of our elders attacked another one of our elders) but that's a long story that i'll tell later.

I met two people in the CTM this week: Jackson Olsen from Missoula who apparently is best friends with the Burnham's cousin, AND we played viola together at Allstate my senior year which we didn't know until I played violin for everyone at devotional- so that was fun. That also taught me I still have tendinitis. AND I met Elder Wadman, the Cassan's grandson!

Today was kinda stressful, woke up at 4 am and said goodbye to Sister Dahneke and then left and flew into Brasília where we hung out at the mission home for a bit just figuring things out. For like 5 hours. My companion is sister Olivera and she doesn't speak a word of english; so this should be a party. She says I speak better than others straight out of the CTM, but I have a weird accent, different than Americans. Not sure if that is good or bad, but we will see. My area is Sobradinho, or something close to that... I don't even know, it's been a long day haha. I got a note from the Americana before me telling me this HUGE list of food she can't eat, and that she is the best companion, even if she doesn't act like it sometimes  sooooo we shall see what's up with that! The town is cute, and Brasília is pretty sick, not gonna lie. Also, one of the Elders (i think the AP) told me Sister Olsen says HIIII so that was the best thing EVER to hear!

And the computer I'm at doesn't have sd capabilities and I forgot my cord,   So no photos today. triste, desculpe...

love you guys

Last Week In The CTM

To start off, I had the flu this week which was supa great. Not sure how I survived that because I still had to go to class and everything but tudo bem

Also mom I tried tylenol pm last night because my body hurt because of the flu and i woke up for like 3 hours at 2 am and I have never felt worse. I literally couldn’t sit still, it was like I had taken 10 of those 5 hour energys. I looked at one of the side effects and it said insomnia so I’m hoping that was the reason because i honestly felt like i was possesed by something, i was running up and down the hallway, doing yoga, anything because i could not sit still. It was torturous but eventually went away. One of the boys gave me melatonin in case it happens again and i’m not going to take that unless that happens again don’t worry. I’m  not gonna take tylenol pm ever again, worst experience ever! but other than that, great week! sad to see all our friends leave, but that’ll be meeeeeee in 6 dias! opa

Okay so it is officially my last week!! We are the big guns here. I'm not sure when I will be emailing next, could easily be in two weeks from Brasília. IDK how that is going to happen or how that will work out but we shall see! I can’t wait to leave and just get to the field because I think using my Portuguese all the time will help it a lot. I've totally lost all of my French sadly but tudo bem

The best part of the CTM is probably all the fun people here, everyone tries to help you learn Portuguese.  The biggest challenge was my companhiera because I really had to learn patience. You really can't teach unless you and your companion are one and we finally are getting there this final week at the CTM.  Our ward is just all the english speakers, so everyone I see every day. Sundays basically are just kinda like normal days but sem portuguese. Literally, every day in the CTM is a spiritual high.

I played piano for one of our devotionals AND I get to play the violin tomorrow! I'm actually soo stoked because I miss it, and I’ve been playing it in class for fun.  I loveee that they gave me the violin it's so fun to play. a really old and bad violin but still. They have it to play at devotionals 2x a week and they asked me to play this week. Hopefully I can get my hands on the cello soon.  One of the guys who spoke at devotional was actually my mission president's brother which was so cool! He talked about how serving a mission is like donating the tithing of our lives.

Oh and I get to do initiatories tomorrow!! Last time going to the temple and we have to get up at 5 am tomorrow to leave at 6 because Sao Paulo is closed so we have to go to Campinas. 90 minutes away but totally worth it because it will be the last time I go to the temple for 16 months. I also get to know the day I come home next week so yay!! Maybe I won't tell you and pull a surprise like dad did with his parents.... but I’m pretty certain it’ll be before Christmas.

I really love email day because I can take photos and even though I don't have enough time to read and respond, I read them throughout the week.  So if it seems like I don't read emails, it's cause I take pics and try to respond to as much as I can.

I'm gonna miss my roomies.  We have so much fun, we have these back cracking sessions, yoga sessions, we are basically a quad instead of a duo cause we go everywhere together.

My whole distrito is going to Curitiba Sul except for me, Sister Dahneke and Sister Mcdevitt .  So we are sad because they all will see each other and have cooler weather, while we will literally be sweating to death. My irmao served in Brasília and he's been telling us a lot about it so that's cool to know. Also, I get like two hours to email today haha so amazing, bless my poor sweet companhiera, i had to tell the instrudors that her computer wasn't working and that she had only gotten 10 minutes. They just so happened to have 2 extra computers in the next session so I got more time too! Trials turn into blessings, whaddya know.

We all leave at the same day, different times. My group going to Brasilia is so fun! There is Elder Hendrickson in my distrito, e ele is super smart and cool but he came from Provo. Then Elder Saunders who seems chill, another distrito though and they seem to be doing better with the idioma  (language) because they FSL. Then two Brasilero companhieros who always say OI SEESTER SESSIL whenever I see them in the hall. So we are gonna have a fun time on that plane! Oh we started in field training today, which is so boring, but it's in portuguese so when you kinda blank out for a sec you lose track of everything.

So remember how i fasted the one day we had Brasìlian bbq?? well they finally had it again, the churrasco was AMAZING.

Also I got to see Tanner Mckee in action and WOW. There's a reason Stanford wanted him, watching him throw the football was soo cool. I also got to sew up his tie because it was unravelling and then me and sister sterling had a photo shoot with it so we can use that when he is famous and stuff

We had TRC today, which is where you go and you get to talk to real members as if you are a missionary and you watch it when you are done because there are video cameras in there, So we did that, and it was SO cringey to watch ourselves hahaha I just start laughing in the middle of it because I know I am conjugating some stuff just so wrong but they are sitting there nodding like i didn't just royally mess up or accidentally say a bad word.

also people here type either kkkkkkkk for our version of hahahahha, or jsjsjsjjsjsjs, or huehuehuehuehue. i thought that was really funny

k bye. tchao tchao

Rainbow Laundry

Ok so my computer was broken and it took me a while to find another one so I’m just gonna send this one out  before reading my other emails and take pics of them to read later. I will try to respond if I  have enough time

TODAY WAS A WEEK AND A HALF

First of all, we went to a Portuguese temple session FINALLY and I actually understood it. It was super fun. I also found out I am the only girl in the CTM going to Brasilia so far, so it will just be me and a couple guys on the plane ride over. Two more weeks, I can’t wait!!

We went proselyting this week which was super hype.   They dropped us off in the middle of Sao Paulo and just told us to go get contacts. The street was busy with entertainers and shops and stuff, reminded me of NYC. We talked to a lot of people (or I tried to lol), and got two contacts. The first guy was interested in our message and then said he didn’t want to give us his info so we let him go. Then, a couple minutes later we ran into him again and he asked if he could give us his email. IDK if he was serious but hey, it counts. The second dude was a taxi driver, who pulled over, waved us over, gave us his digits, and told us to call him. Not sure if that counts but he’s probably gonna get a call from the missionaries (haha)

There was also a girl we saw as we were proselyting who was crying. I went up to her because my companion gets too scared to talk and just gave her a hug. She told me what was wrong through her tears but I couldn’t understand. She cried on my shoulder forever but then said she wasn’t interested and she had already talked to missionaries when I asked if I could help anymore but tudo bem, I hope I helped her even though I had no clue what she was saying.

OH AND CAR CRASH GALORE

On the way to the temple we saw a motorcycle crash. Then we talked to the bois in our distrito and they said they saw the aftermath of a car crash and there was a whole dead guy there. THENNNN as we were proselyting, I was talking to some Elders for a sec and I hear this screech. I turn around just in time to see a truck flipping over in the middle of the highway. There was blood and fuel everywhere. One elder said a quick prayer, and it didn’t look like anyone was hurt enough to where it was scary, but still it was wild. Wasn’t expecting that. I’m surprised since these aren’t the worst drivers I’ve seen. They’re crazy, but not even that bad but we’ve already seen soo many accidents. Anyways, that was wild.

We had to fast and it was rough because they don’t feed us dinner sat night or breakfast sunday so yikes, but it was good. It has rained all of this week and I have been FREEZING, thank goodness you made me bring sweaters mom. We haven’t had any atividade fisica this week and I’ve been dying to just go for a run or something.

Here’s the laundry issue. The laundry here sucks, no other way to put it. This week was especially eventful because as some NOVO missionarios were washing, their clothes either turned up blue, orange, or brown. I’m talking about their whites. Something wrong with the plumbing I guess. So since we had laundry that day, we just hand washed ours which took forever but that’s okay, I’m glad that they are clean.

My roommates are amazing and I love them but they are all going boy crazy in here (haha).  I’m glad I don’t worry about that.

Also, santa claus here is called daddy christmas. Take that as you may.

Boa Noite!
